Burcon NutraScience announces first commercial sales of Canola Protein Isolate – Puratein C

The protein can be incorporated into dairy alternatives, ready-to-drink beverages, meat analogues, sauces, and baked goods, among others.

CANADA – Burcon NutraScience Corporation, a global leader in plant-based protein innovation, has announced the first commercial sales of Puratein C, a canola protein isolate designed to meet the growing global demand for clean-label, nutritionally complete plant proteins.

Puratein C is a high-purity protein isolate containing more than 90% protein, extracted from non-GMO, North American-grown canola seeds.

The ingredient boasts a complete amino acid profile, including all nine essential amino acids, and delivers a Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) of 1, the highest possible rating.

This indicates that the protein is not only highly digestible but also contains all essential amino acids in sufficient amounts to support human growth and development.

Burcon highlights Puratein C’s versatility across multiple applications, thanks to its high solubility, light cream color, and mild flavor profile.

The protein can be incorporated into a wide range of foods, including dairy alternatives, ready-to-drink beverages, meat analogues, sauces, and baked goods, as well as products in the foodservice, nutrition, and nutraceutical sectors.

“The first sales of Puratein canola protein mark another step in scaling Burcon’s innovation into the market,” said Kip Underwood, CEO of Burcon. “By leveraging our technology platform, we are creating sustainable, high-quality proteins that drive new opportunities for customers and revenue growth.”

The milestone builds on Burcon’s long-term strategy to establish recurring revenue streams across multiple protein categories.

The company holds an extensive patent portfolio covering novel proteins derived from pea, canola, soy, hemp, sunflower, and other plant sources.

With this platform, Burcon is expanding its reach into high-growth product categories while meeting increasing consumer and industry demand for sustainable protein solutions.

A key aspect of Burcon’s innovation lies in its ability to upcycle solvent-free agricultural by-products into high-value protein ingredients.

This approach not only enhances sustainability but also strengthens Burcon’s position as a key contributor to the plant-based protein economy, which continues to expand as global consumers seek healthier, environmentally conscious food choices.

The launch of Puratein C into the commercial market underscores Burcon’s role in transforming underutilized crops into valuable, functional ingredients.

As plant proteins gain traction in mainstream food and beverage categories, Burcon is positioning itself to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable nutrition.
