INDIA – Amrut Distilleries Private Limited has launched AmrutKranthi, a new Indian single malt whisky positioned as a tribute to the evolution of Indian whisky and the country’s growing presence in the global luxury market.

Bottled at 40% ABV, AmrutKranthi is the latest expression from the Bengaluru-based distillery. The company said the whisky reflects years of research, global benchmarking and maturation expertise, combining Indian whisky-making traditions with international standards of craftsmanship.

According to Amrut, Kranthi draws on the distillery’s technical expertise in whisky production, including its experience with global whisky traditions, maturation science and flavour development. The use of Indian barley and maturation in India’s climate remains central to the company’s single malt style.

“A confident nation cannot rely forever on borrowed symbols of prestige. The next chapter of global luxury will be shaped by Indian brands, Indian craftsmanship, and Indian self-belief,” said Rakshit N. Jagdale, managing director of Amrut Distilleries.

“With Kranthi, we celebrate a revolution in mindset: the belief that when the world looks for the finest, it can look to India, and to Amrut as a proud flag-bearer of that new era,” he added.

The launch also pays tribute to the late Neelkanth Rao Jagdale, whose leadership helped establish Amrut’s international single malt credentials.

Amrut said India’s single malt category has expanded from its early stages into a market of nearly 700,000 cases, with an estimated value of about Rs 1,000 crore.

The distillery was among the early Indian producers to challenge Scotch whisky’s dominance in the global single malt category. Amrut Fusion’s international recognition, including its ranking among the world’s top whiskies in 2009, helped increase attention on Indian single malts.

The name Kranthi, meaning revolution and awakening, reflects the positioning of the new whisky around an increasingly self-confident India creating its own benchmarks in global luxury.

The company said the launch brought together guests from several nationalities and Indian states, reflecting international interest in Indian single malt whisky.

In June, the New Delhi-based Indian Malt Whisky Association introduced a mark of authenticity for domestically produced single malts meeting specified production and maturation standards.

Amrut also launched Expedition 15-year-old last year, described as the oldest Indian single malt whisky ever bottled. Indian spirits exports reached US$375 million in 2024, recording double-digit growth since 2022.
