Brown-Forman introduces Woodford Reserve to Kenya, aiming to grow its presence in the region’s expanding premium-spirits segment.

KENYA – Woodford Reserve, the small-batch Kentucky bourbon produced by Brown-Forman, has officially entered the Kenyan market as the company expands its footprint in East Africa’s premium-whiskey category.
The rollout was marked by a Nairobi event on November 6 in celebration of Old Fashioned Month, a global campaign dedicated to promoting the classic cocktail.
During the launch, Brown-Forman’s East Africa Advocacy Lead, David Mutunga, noted that the event supports the brand’s regional visibility strategy.
He said Old Fashioned Month offers whiskey enthusiasts an opportunity to experience a cocktail that continues to maintain strong global appeal.
The bourbon is now accessible in Kenya through major retail outlets and e-commerce channels, with Brown-Forman focusing on affluent urban consumers who are increasingly drawn to super-premium spirits.
The introduction aligns with Nairobi’s growing bar culture, where demand for crafted cocktails and at-home mixology has been rising.
Kenya’s spirits industry is anticipated to expand significantly, with market value projected to increase from US$1.49 billion in 2024 to US$2.56 billion by 2030, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 9.4 percent. The sector’s performance is driven by higher disposable incomes, rapid urbanization, and increasing interest in imported premium alcoholic beverages.
Despite the promising outlook, high import duties on spirits remain a potential constraint, as taxes contribute heavily to retail pricing and may affect uptake among aspiring buyers.
Woodford Reserve aims to distinguish itself in the competitive imported-whiskey landscape by emphasizing its heritage, small-batch production methods, and unique flavor profile. The bourbon is already available in several African countries, including South Africa.
