NORWAY – Nordic Aquafarms has appointed Charles Høstlund as its new CEO, stepping into the role previously held by Bernt Olav Røttingsnes, who will continue to contribute to the company in an advisory capacity.
Høstlund, who has been serving as the Chairman of the Board, is now set to lead the company as it focuses on becoming a major player in the yellowtail kingfish farming sector.
With over 20 years of experience in the aquaculture industry, Høstlund’s background includes a stint as CEO of Norway Royal Salmon until its acquisition by Salmar in 2022.
His extensive experience is expected to be a significant asset as Nordic Aquafarms navigates its next phase of development.
The company, which specializes in land-based seafood farming, is expanding its operations.
Its facilities include a hatchery with proprietary broodstock in Bedsted-Thy, Denmark, and growth sites in Hanstholm, Denmark, and Fredrikstad, Norway.
Additionally, Nordic Aquafarms is establishing yellowtail kingfish production in Eureka, California, and operates a RAS design company in Aarhus, Denmark.
The company’s Annual Report for 2023 highlights several significant developments.
Nordic Aquafarms secured NOK 300 million (US$28.3M) in capital to support its expansion.
It has also finalized an agreement with AKVA group for the delivery of RAS technology, which will increase its capacity by 4,000 tonnes HOG annually.
Local authorities have provided strong support for infrastructure development to accommodate an additional 4,000 tonnes HOG capacity, following the model used for the initial capacity expansion.
Furthermore, the company has relocated its headquarters to Norway, aiming to leverage the seafood capital market cluster to attract investors.
To enhance its financial stability, Nordic Aquafarms has also raised an additional NOK 100 million (US$9.43M) in equity.
