SOUTH AFRICA – Daybreak Foods, a significant poultry and egg company, is tackling youth unemployment in South Africa through a partnership with the Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme.
This collaboration is set to offer 104 young individuals valuable work experience across Daybreak’s operations, fostering the next generation of agribusiness leaders.
The YES Programme, known for generating job opportunities for the youth, aligns seamlessly with Daybreak Foods’ dedication to social responsibility and economic progress.
Richard Manzini, Daybreak’s CEO, has been actively promoting the agricultural sector as a key driver of economic growth through recent presentations at Mpumalanga University and Fort Hare University.
The significance of such partnerships is profound, providing youth with the skills and experience necessary to thrive in a competitive job market.
By focusing on agribusiness, Manzini emphasized, “Daybreak prioritizes fulfilling its investment mandate to advance transformation in the agriculture industry, one of the least transformed sectors in the country. Job creation and preservation, particularly for youth, and establishing meaningful economic platforms to address poverty in our host communities are crucial to our success.”
Manzini added, “We will write a better future; not because we are rewriting the past, but because the future and present demand it of us. Our youth are the mainstay of our future.”
Since taking over Daybreak Farms, now Daybreak Foods, in early 2024, Manzini has swiftly implemented changes, including better governance controls and policies.
These reforms are transforming Daybreak into a more corporatized entity, addressing challenges like bird flu and rising feed prices, and adapting to market shifts toward ready-to-cook chicken products.
