Heineken’s US$2.75 billion investment in Yucatán marks a major expansion, emphasizing sustainability and Indigenous community engagement.

MEXICO – Heineken has unveiled plans to invest $2.75 billion between 2025 and 2028 to construct a new brewery in Kanasín, Yucatán, marking one of its largest recent investments in Mexico.
The facility will be Heineken’s eighth brewery in the country and is expected to generate more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Oriol Bonaclocha, CEO of Heineken Mexico, highlighted that the project forms part of a long-term vision focused on growth, innovation, and sustainability.
“This investment reflects confidence in Mexico’s future and the southeast’s capacity to be a sustainable industrial hub,” he said during a press conference with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The new brewery will have an initial production capacity of four million hectoliters, with the potential to double output if demand increases.
Products from the facility will carry the “Hecho en México” seal, signifying that all inputs and manufacturing processes are 100% Mexican, as certified by the Economy Ministry.
Bonaclocha also emphasized that this is the first time Heineken has conducted an Indigenous consultation for a project, positioning the company as a pioneer in engaging local communities in the brewing industry.
Mexico’s Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard noted that the investment aligns with government efforts to attract companies to regions with ample water resources, citing the southeast’s suitability for water-intensive industries.
Heineken’s presence in Mexico includes seven existing breweries, a malting plant, and a logistics network of over 170 distribution centers.
The company’s portfolio in Mexico features 21 brands, including Heineken, Tecate, Indio, Dos Equis, Amstel Ultra, and Carta Blanca.
Yucatán Governor Joaquín Jesús Díaz Mena welcomed the investment, describing it as a catalyst for local economic growth and industrial development.
The project is expected to strengthen the region’s supply ecosystem and create significant employment opportunities.
Celebrating its 135th anniversary in Mexico this year, Heineken continues to expand its footprint, combining innovation, sustainability, and community engagement as key pillars of its strategy in the country.
