IMCD strengthens presence in food ingredients market with the acquisition of Ferrer Alimentación

IMCD expands food ingredients portfolio in Iberia through full acquisition of Ferrer Alimentación, pending closing in June 2025.

SPAIN – IMCD, a global leader in the distribution and formulation of specialty chemicals and ingredients, has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in Ferrer Alimentación and Medir Ferrer Y Compañía (jointly referred to as Ferrer Alimentación).

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to finalize in June 2025.

Founded in 1955, Ferrer Alimentación is a well-established distributor of food and beverage ingredients in Iberia. The company serves a wide range of sectors, including bakery, dairy, meat, beverages, and specialised nutrition.

With deep industry knowledge and strong supplier partnerships, it has built a reputation for delivering high-quality ingredients and tailored solutions.

Ferrer Alimentación employs a team of 37 professionals and reported revenues of approximately €112 million in the 2024 financial year. Its operations and client relationships span a broad spectrum of the Iberian food and beverage market.

José Alcover, Managing Director of IMCD Iberia & Maghreb, said the acquisition reflects a strong strategic alignment between the two companies. “IMCD and Ferrer Alimentación share the same vision and cultural values, making our companies an ideal match to outpace the challenges of the future.

Their strong portfolio, broad network of customers and suppliers, deep understanding of the food markets, and unwavering focus on customer needs are exactly the attributes we value in a partner.”

Emma Gómez Ballesté, General Manager of Ferrer Alimentación and Medir Ferrer, said the move marks a significant milestone for the company. “Joining IMCD marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that will allow our people and partners to grow even stronger, while staying true to the principles and relationships that have guided us for decades.”

This acquisition follows IMCD’s recent agreement to acquire TECOM Ingredients S.A. (TECOM), a food ingredients distributor headquartered in Molins de Rei, near Barcelona.

Founded in 1996, TECOM provides innovative ingredient solutions across applications such as savoury, bakery, dairy, meat, confectionery, and health and nutrition.

IMCD serves over 60 countries across six continents and employs more than 5,126 professionals.

The company offers a portfolio of 48,000 products across key sectors including food and nutrition, pharmaceuticals, personal care, coatings, construction, and energy.

IMCD reported 2024 revenues of €4.727 billion (US$5.2 billion).
