JBS USA receives US$12 million in tax incentives for new Iowa sausage plant

Facility to create hundreds of new jobs following Tyson closure

USA – JBS USA is moving forward with plans to open a sausage processing facility in Perry, Iowa, after securing US$12 million in state tax incentives.

The funds, granted through the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s High Quality Jobs Program, are part of a broader effort to support job creation and economic development in the region.

The proposed 150,000-square-foot plant will focus on sausage production and is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026.

JBS will invest US$135 million in the project, which will initially create 250 jobs, with staffing projected to grow to 500 over time.

The announcement comes months after Tyson Foods closed its pork facility in Perry, leaving the community with a significant employment gap.

JBS stated that the new plant will support its prepared foods division and contribute to the company’s national production network.

The facility is designed to be state-of-the-art, incorporating modern processing technologies and systems to improve capacity and output.

A boost for local employment

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said the state views the investment as a positive step toward revitalizing Perry’s workforce and economic base.

JBS already operates meat processing plants in Council Bluffs, Marshalltown, and Ottumwa, where it employs over 5,300 people collectively.

The addition of the Perry plant is expected to further strengthen JBS’s presence in Iowa and build new partnerships with regional producers.

JBS USA CEO Wesley Batista Filho said the company appreciates the state’s support and is committed to contributing to Perry’s economy through job creation and facility development.

He emphasized that the project aligns with the company’s long-term goals in the U.S. market and reflects its focus on high-quality meat production.

JBS USA is based in Greeley, Colorado, and is a subsidiary of Brazil’s JBS S.A., one of the world’s largest meat companies.

In addition to pork and beef, JBS is the leading broiler chicken producer globally and the majority owner of Pilgrim’s Pride, the second-largest poultry company in the United States.
