JBT Marel begins construction of new office and production site in Helsingborg

The company is expanding its presence in Sweden as part of its integration following the merger between JBT and Marel.

SWEDEN – JBT Marel has started construction of a new office and production facility in Helsingborg, Sweden.

The 22,000-square-meter site will include offices, manufacturing areas, a food technology center, development units, and workshops, all housed within one location.

According to JBT Marel, the project is scheduled for completion in 2027 and aims to bring together its regional operations under one roof to streamline its production and research activities.

Local officials, including Christian Orsing, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board of Helsingborg, and Matthias Kettelhoit from SouthBay, joined JBT Marel’s leadership at the groundbreaking ceremony held earlier this week.

Anders Lassing, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Prepared Foods at JBT Marel, said the new facility represents both a historical and strategic investment for the company in the region.

He added that consolidating operations into a purpose-built facility would help strengthen efficiency and innovation within its food processing and equipment manufacturing units.

The construction in Helsingborg comes after the completion of a major merger earlier this year between Iceland-based Marel and U.S.-headquartered John Bean Technologies Corporation (JBT).

The combined business now operates as JBT Marel Corporation, which officially began trading on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Iceland on January 3.

JBT Marel CEO Brian Deck described the merger as a milestone following more than a year of preparation, noting that it creates a company positioned to advance technology and digital solutions across the food production chain.

“Our shared goal is to shape the future of food through innovation and expertise,” Deck said in a statement following the merger announcement.

Árni Sigurdsson, who previously worked with Marel and now serves as president of JBT Marel Corporation, thanked teams from both companies for completing the transition while continuing to focus on customer needs.

He stated that integrating the two businesses remains the top priority as the company works to improve service delivery and create more value for its customers and shareholders.

JBT Marel Corporation now oversees a wide range of operations across the global food industry, including meat, poultry, fish, and retail food solutions.

Deck continues to lead the meat and poultry division, while Sigurdsson oversees the fish division under the Food Service Solutions and Fish & Retail segment.

The merger combines Marel’s long-standing experience in food processing systems with JBT’s expertise in automation and digital technology, expanding its global reach in equipment and service solutions for food manufacturers.
