KFC unveils first-ever drone delivery in South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA –  In a move that is set to redefine the landscape of food delivery, KFC South Africa a regional operating unit of US-based fast-food chain KFC, has unveiled a historic milestone by successfully executing the first-ever drone delivery in the country.

The momentous occasion saw a 21-piece KFC bucket delivered to Proteas player David Miller during the KFC T20 International Series against Australia captivating both cricket enthusiasts and food lovers alike.

The delivery marked a significant chapter in the KFC brand’s commitment to enhancing the ultimate consumer experience.

The unparalleled food delivery demonstrated KFC’s unwavering dedication to innovation in providing convenience to its consumers, irrespective of their location.

“The live KFC Drone delivery is a first of its kind on our shores, and we are excited to bring SA’s favourite chicken to the fans and this time delivered directly to their seat,” Grant Macpherson, Chief Marketing Officer of KFC Africa stated expressing his enthusiasm for the achievement.

Proteas star David Miller was equally thrilled by the extraordinary experience of having his KFC Bucket delivered via a drone.

“Talk about an epic and memorable experience. I don’t think anybody has ever had chicken served in this kind of way,” he said.

Earlier this year, the fast food giant was accused of idea appropriation by a South African entrepreneur accusing the company of stealing his idea of a local dish known as kota.

However, denied the claims in a statement to South African media, stating that it was “no secret that kota is a famous South African meal and the limited-edition KFC Sphatlho is a result of an internal product development process”.

Despite the incident, KFC continues to hold a special place in South Africa’s culinary culture. With a rich history spanning several decades in the country, KFC has grown to become one of the most beloved fast-food chains.

Known for its signature fried chicken, KFC has consistently expanded its menu offerings to cater to diverse tastes and preferences, further solidifying its position as a leading fast-food brand in South Africa.

This historic drone delivery event not only showcases KFC’s commitment to innovation but also its dedication to consumers across the nation.

As South Africa’s demand continues to evolve, KFC’s pioneering spirit ensures that it remains at the forefront of delivering exceptional moments and, of course, its iconic fried chicken to its loyal patrons.
