Mahou San Miguel expands beyond beer with new coffee-focused venture Barista & Finca.

SPAIN – Spanish brewing giant Mahou San Miguel has officially entered the coffee sector with the creation of a new subsidiary, Barista & Finca.

The move marks a strategic step in diversifying its business beyond traditional brewing.

Mahou confirmed that the newly formed company will focus on “exploring emerging categories that complement our current portfolio, as part of our business diversification strategy.” According to Spanish business daily Expansión, Barista & Finca began operations at the end of July.

Business registry documents viewed by Expansión and business directory eInforma reveal that Barista & Finca is set to produce and market coffee, tea, cocoa infusions, spices, and related food and complementary products.

The unit will also handle export, import, storage, and distribution, either directly or in collaboration with third parties.

Unnamed company sources cited by Expansión said Mahou opted to establish a separate company to evaluate opportunities in this new drinks area, while retaining the flexibility to bring in new resources as needed.

The creation of Barista & Finca follows a series of category expansions by the Alhambra Reserva 1925 brewer in 2025. In July, Mahou introduced its first energy drink brand, Refeel, available in mango and pineapple flavor and containing plant-based caffeine.

The brewer positioned the launch as a response to rising consumer demand for healthier beverage options.

Earlier in April, the company also expanded into wine-based beverages with the launch of Los Cachis. This range is aimed at younger adult consumers and is designed for consumption during Spanish regional festivals such as the Feria de Málaga.

Mahou already has a presence in Spain’s spirits market through its Bendito vermouth brand. With Barista & Finca, the company continues to broaden its portfolio across fast-growing beverage categories while reinforcing its long-term diversification strategy.
