Mars Wrigley Kenya begins export of locally manufactured Extra Chewing Gum to Egypt

Kenya-made Extra chewing gum enters Egypt as Mars Wrigley expands regional reach and taps into growing health-conscious demand.

KENYA – Mars Wrigley Kenya has officially commenced the export of its locally manufactured Extra Sugar-Free Chewing Gum to Egypt.

This move marks a significant milestone for the company as it expands its presence across African markets.

The launch comes amid rising demand in Egypt’s chewing gum segment, which continues to grow due to increased interest in convenient, flavourful, and health-conscious snacks.

The sugar-free Extra Peppermint gum is positioned to meet the needs of consumers seeking long-lasting freshness with a minty flavour, aligning with evolving preferences for healthier alternatives.

Speaking during the flag-off, Betty Mutinda, PMO Sugar Free at Mars, noted the achievement was the result of innovative technology and global quality standards.

“What began as a bold vision to produce world-class chewing gum right here in Kenya has now entered a thrilling new chapter,” she said. “This achievement is a celebration of teamwork at its finest. Made in Kenya. Moving across Africa, one border at a time.”

Mars Wrigley Kenya has steadily increased its manufacturing capabilities in recent years. In 2019, the company commissioned a KES 7 billion state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Athi River, Machakos County, which produces the Extra gum now being exported.

Egypt’s regulatory landscape supports growth in the gum sector by focusing on food safety and product quality.

These standards ensure that imported chewing gum products, including those from Kenya, meet stringent manufacturing and ingredient safety requirements.
