INDIA—Mother Dairy, an Indian dairy and fruits’ processing company, is gearing up to launch 30 new products this summer, primarily focusing on ice cream and yogurt categories, as it anticipates a surge in consumer demand.
According to the company, summer holds significant anticipation for their business, especially for products like ice creams, curd, and beverages.
Manish Bandlish, MD of Mother Dairy Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd, added that the move was partly inspired by predictions from Indian Meteorological Department, who predicted a hotter than normal summer.
For this reason, the company has decided to roll out more than 20 new ice cream products, along with other dairy products such as Greek yoghurt.
As part of this strategy, the company is establishing a mega dairy plant in Nagpur, with a substantial investment of around Rs 525 crore (US$ 62 million).
This facility, which will ensure the demand for dairy products is met, will have a processing capacity of 600, 000 liters of milk, with the potential for expansion up to 1 million liters per day.
This is meant to take production to another level, improving on the 5 000, 000 delivered throughout India daily.
Nagpur was selected as a strategic location to enable the company to effectively serve the markets of central and southern regions, catering to the diverse needs of consumers in these areas.
In line with its dairy expansion plans, Mother Dairy has also announced its intentions to expand its fruits and vegetables (F&V) businesses.
The company is also looking to commission a new state of the art fruit processing plant in Karnataka, with an investment exceeding Rs 125 crore (US$ 15 million).
The facility is also part of a strategy to support the company’s capabilities in fruit processing, enhancing its product offerings and meeting the new consumers’ preferences.
Both plants are slated for completion within approximately two years, demonstrating Mother Dairy’s commitment to timely execution and operational excellence.
