Oman Flour Mills vows to expand egg prodution by 15% in two years

Oman Flour Mills expanding egg production amid growing regional demand

OMAN – Oman Flour Mills, through its subsidiary Arabian Food Production, is currently producing around 500 million eggs annually and is working to increase this by 15% over the next two years.

The company says the planned growth is part of its strategy to support Oman’s broader objectives around food independence and national food supply.

Arabian Food Production CEO Dr Suheel Ahmed noted that Oman had reached 102% self-sufficiency in egg production in 2024, adding that the company will continue to serve the domestic market while maintaining exports.

Currently, about a quarter of the company’s total egg output is shipped to nearby countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

However, the business faces challenges tied to shifting consumer habits, especially during Ramadan, school holidays, and the hotter months when demand tends to fall.

Dr Ahmed explained that because egg production runs on a fixed cycle, the company cannot quickly scale output up or down in response to such changes in consumption.

Instead, surplus eggs are distributed through a wider regional network to avoid waste and maintain sales during low-demand periods.

Investing in automation and technology

To improve efficiency and quality, Arabian Food Production has invested significantly in its latest farming facilities, which rely on automated systems to handle the daily production of over 1.3 million eggs.

This technology reduces the need for manual labour, controls temperature and humidity with precision, and limits human contact with the eggs to improve hygiene and reduce damage.

The farm uses modern grading and packaging machines that prepare eggs for sale with minimal breakage, according to the company.

Focus on sustainability and global partnerships

In addition to productivity, the company is also working to lower its environmental impact by installing systems that use less energy and water.

All poultry waste is treated at the facility, while culled birds are converted into poultry meal and fats used in pet food and other sectors.

Arabian Food Production sources its hens from Germany’s Lohmann breed and works closely with international equipment suppliers to support its operations.

Japan-based ISE Foods, which holds a stake in the company, also provides technical guidance as part of ongoing improvements to its production processes.
