AUSTRALIA – Patrick Hutchinson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC), is set to step down from his position on November 1, 2024, after leading the organization for more than seven years.
Hutchinson, who took over the role in July 2017, has been at the helm during a period of significant change for the council.
During his tenure, he played a key part in shaping AMIC’s strategic plan, focusing on advocacy, supporting its members, fostering industry growth, and promoting sustainability.
AMIC Chair Tom Maguire credited Hutchinson with driving the organization’s vision, highlighting the impact his leadership has had on various fronts.
“Patrick played a pivotal role in developing and implementing our first strategic plan. Under his guidance, AMIC has made notable progress in areas such as advocacy, leadership, events, and services, helping our members navigate challenges and seize opportunities,” Maguire said.
Reflecting on his departure, Hutchinson expressed pride in the progress made under his leadership.
“Despite facing numerous challenges, we’ve come out stronger and more unified. I’m confident AMIC is well-positioned for continued success, and I look forward to seeing its future growth,” he said.
The Australian Meat Industry Council serves as the representative body for the country’s post-farmgate red meat sector.
With nearly 2,500 member companies, including retailers, processors, wholesalers, smallgoods manufacturers, boning rooms, and independent butchers, AMIC plays a key role in supporting the industry nationwide.
Australia’s red meat and livestock industry contributed US$75.4 billion in turnover in 2021–22, reflecting a 7.7% rise compared to revised figures from 2020–21 and a 10.7% increase from 2017–18.
Turnover refers to the income earned by businesses within the sector through the sale of goods and services. In the same year, the industry employed around 433,389 people.
