Plukon Food Group invests in smart fleet technology

The European poultry producer is expanding its transport digitalisation and plant-based footprint

NETHERLANDS – Plukon Food Group is continuing to modernise its operations by implementing digital tools and expanding its presence in the alternative protein sector.

The company announced that its subsidiary, Verasegura, has received funding aimed at upgrading and digitising its transport systems.

This funding will be used to integrate second-generation smart tachographs into the company’s fleet to enhance logistical efficiency.

According to Plukon, the new tachograph technology will enable more streamlined vehicle management, closer monitoring of driver activity, and improved access to real-time operational data.

Verasegura forms part of Plukon Food Group, a European food producer with a core focus on poultry as well as fresh meals, meal components, salads, and plant-based proteins.

Plukon currently operates 40 production facilities across seven countries in Europe.

Expansion into plant-based manufacturing

In addition to the transport upgrade, Plukon is also reinforcing its position in the alternative protein segment.

Earlier this month, the group agreed to acquire the operations of Vega Insiders, a Netherlands-based manufacturer of vegan and vegetarian products.

The company produces plant-based foods for retail, foodservice, and quick-service restaurant clients, and operates from a facility located in Udenhout.

Vega Insiders is currently part of the Zilverwerf Group and will continue to operate under its own name following the acquisition.

All 18 employees at the Udenhout site will retain their positions under the new ownership.

Plukon has said that the existing staff will support product development efforts as the group aims to expand its offerings in the vegan segment.

The acquisition marks Plukon’s first dedicated facility for the production of exclusively plant-based products.

Company representatives noted that this deal aligns with their strategy to increase manufacturing capacity in the meat-free category.

No financial terms were disclosed, but the move is part of a larger plan by Plukon to meet growing demand for alternative proteins in Europe and beyond.

Plukon CEO Kees Kraijenoord said the integration of Vega Insiders is expected to contribute to the company’s wider plant-based ambitions while allowing the new unit to continue operating independently.
