Royal Greenland to appoint Toke Binzer as new CEO

Toke Binzer takes over as CEO on December 1, 2025

GREENLAND – Royal Greenland A/S has announced that Toke Binzer will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer from December 1, 2025.

The company said the appointment is intended to strengthen leadership while keeping focus on both its international markets and its position in Greenland.

Board chairman Niels Thomsen said the company expects Binzer’s management style and background to align with its goals and emphasized that the board looks forward to working closely with him.

Professional background and experience

Binzer has previously held senior roles at IBM and TDC, where he managed large-scale change and development initiatives, experience the company believes is relevant for running a global fishing group.

In addition, he has worked as a director at Tusass, giving him familiarity with Greenland’s business environment and broader social conditions.

This combination of experience abroad and in Greenland is being highlighted as important for leading a business that operates internationally while also playing a central role in the Greenlandic economy.

Personal connection to Greenland

Binzer grew up in Nuuk and returned to the city with his family when he joined Tusass, a move that underlines his connection to Greenland.

Royal Greenland said this personal link adds to his understanding of the company’s role as one of the country’s major employers and a contributor to national economic activity.

Transition from interim leadership

The appointment comes after a period with interim CEO Preben Sunke, who said it had been an honor to guide the company temporarily and added that he now looks forward to collaborating with Binzer on delivering strategy and improving financial results.

The leadership change follows the company’s latest interim financial report, released in August, which showed a return to profit in the first half of 2025.

Royal Greenland recorded a profit of US$585,000 (DKK 4 million) compared with a loss of US$1.75 million (DKK 12 million) in the same period a year earlier.

Although profit was modest, the improvement was linked to higher sales prices, which compensated for an 11 percent decline in volumes caused by fishing challenges and geopolitical pressures.

The result before tax was a loss of US$1.6 million (DKK 11 million), but this was still an improvement of US$7.02 million compared to the previous year.

This financial development forms part of Royal Greenland’s ongoing restructuring program, called “Back-to-Black,” aimed at restoring profitability after losses in recent years.
