USA – Smithfield Foods, one of the biggest pork companies in the USA, has pledged US$150,000 in grant funding this year to support the National FFA Organization’s local chapters and members
This is seen as a contribution to agricultural education.
The first installment of US$75,000 has already been distributed to 21 FFA chapters across Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and North Carolina, with the second round of grants scheduled for release in October 2024.
Steve Evans, Smithfield Foods’ vice president of community development, highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering future leaders through partnerships like the one with FFA.
He emphasized that the grants would provide essential learning opportunities for students, equipping them with skills and experiences necessary for their development within their communities.
The grants, part of Smithfield’s annual funding commitment as a corporate partner of the National FFA Organization, are intended to enable FFA members to participate in activities and projects they might not otherwise have access to.
Launched in spring 2024, the chapter grants program focuses on supporting unique initiatives that align with Smithfield’s core areas of hunger relief, education, and community involvement.
Molly Ball, president of the National FFA Foundation and chief marketing officer of the National FFA Organization, expressed gratitude for Smithfield’s support.
She noted that the financial contributions would broaden access to educational resources and enhance the capabilities of local FFA chapters.
The second round of grant applications will open on August 15, with the recipients being announced in October.
