Wayne-Sanderson Farms to acquire Harrison Poultry’s operations

The deal includes production facilities, feed mills, and transportation assets. Harrison Poultry produces 380 million pounds of chicken annually.

USA – Wayne-Sanderson Farms, the third-largest poultry processor in the United States, is taking over Harrison Poultry Inc., a company based in Crawfordville, Georgia.

The acquisition includes Harrison’s hatchery, live production systems, feed mill, and all manufacturing and transportation operations located around Bethlehem and Crawfordville.

Details regarding the financial terms of the transaction have not been made public.

Kevin McDaniel, who became CEO of Wayne-Sanderson Farms in March 2025, said the company is welcoming Harrison’s team and expects operations to continue with little disruption.

Wayne-Sanderson Farms noted that the day-to-day activities across the acquired facilities will remain largely unchanged during the transition.

Harrison Poultry’s president and CEO, Jim Skidmore, said the deal was guided by the goal of securing the best outcome for its workers, farmers, and customers.

He added that Wayne-Sanderson Farms was selected after months of discussions as the most suitable partner to continue the legacy of founder R. Harold Harrison.

Skidmore took the helm at Harrison Poultry in October 2024 and has overseen its recent developments, including the expansion of feed production.

Harrison Poultry currently produces about 380 million pounds of chicken per year, focusing on whole birds, chicken parts in bulk, and boneless cuts.

The company’s product line includes traditional, international, and halal-certified chicken under its “Golden Goodness” brand.

Its feed mill in Crawfordville, which began operations in 2021, is capable of producing 21,000 tons of feed weekly.

According to Wayne-Sanderson Farms, early talks around the acquisition began earlier this year as part of its broader plan to expand its business footprint.

Harold Harrison, who established Harrison Poultry in 1958, was recognized for implementing integrated poultry management at a time when the practice was not widely used.

Both companies have stated that employee retention and continuity for contracted farmers are a priority in this transition.
