Wulff & Co to expand beef imports from Namibia

Norway’s largest meat importer is set to buy over 800 tonnes of Namibian beef.

NAMIBIA – Wulff & Co, Norway’s leading importer and distributor of premium meat, is preparing to purchase more than 800 tonnes of beef and related products from Namibia.

A team of senior company executives visited Windhoek recently and met with Meatco’s interim chief executive officer, Albertus Aochamub, where discussions focused on marketing and trade strategies for the coming year.

Aochamub assumed his interim role on 2 September 2025 for six months, taking over from Kingsley Kwenani, who briefly served as acting CEO between 15 July and 31 August. Kwenani has since returned to his position as CEO for Meatco’s Northern Communal Area.

The Norwegian delegation presented their plan to increase beef imports, with the purchases intended to supply hotel, restaurant and catering clients in various international markets.

Wulff & Co first joined Meatco’s client list just over a year ago and has since acquired 215 tonnes of Namibian beef, mainly consisting of vacuum-packed primal cuts such as ribeye, striploin, rump, fillet and topside.

The company described its cooperation with Meatco as an important step in expanding its global supply network, which caters to hospitality and food service customers in Europe and beyond.

Rising demand for Namibian beef

Namibian beef continues to maintain a strong position in overseas markets, with 46% of exports directed to the European Union during the 2022/2023 period.

South Africa followed with 20.5% of total exports, while Norway accounted for 12.9% and China and other African markets together absorbed 20.4%.

South Africa mainly received offal and manufacturing beef, while higher-value primal and sub-primal cuts were shipped to Europe, Norway and Asia.

Most of the deboned, vacuum-packed chilled and frozen cuts, alongside frozen manufacturing beef, went to these international destinations.

Meatco reported revenue of around US$45 million in 2022/23, up from US$39 million in 2021/22, with overseas sales contributing roughly US$29 million.

During that period, the EU generated 25% of total earnings, South Africa 11%, Norway 27% and China and Asia combined 11%.

Norway allocated Namibia a quota of 1,200 tonnes, of which Meatco utilised 75%, including 300 tonnes supplied in advance to ensure early cash flow and availability of its Natures Reserve brand.

Norwegian partner with long history

Wulff & Co was established in 1962 under the name Norexim Commodities and initially traded with the Soviet Union, importing game meat such as elk, reindeer and antelope.

In the 1990s, it widened its sourcing to suppliers in New Zealand, Australia, South America, Asia and several European countries.

Today, the company distributes a broad range of meat and seafood products, along with berries and purees, for the Norwegian market.
