Guinness Ghana Breweries records US$9.67M profit in Q1 FY2026, marking a sharp turnaround from last year’s loss.

GHANA – Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC (GGBL) has reported a strong improvement in profitability for the first quarter of FY2026, achieving a gross profit of GH¢105.8 million (US$9.67M), driven by enhanced margins and cost efficiency.
The brewer’s performance represents a notable recovery despite a decline in revenue. Quarterly revenue fell to GH¢549.1 million (US$50.17M), compared to GH¢674.7 million (US$61.64M) recorded in the same period last year.
However, disciplined cost management contributed to stronger results, with selling, general, and administrative expenses reduced to GH¢61.9 million (US$5.66M) from GH¢77.8 million (US$7.11M).
This reduction in expenses supported a significant rise in operating profit, which surged to GH¢43.8 million (US$4.0M) from GH¢11.6 million (US$1.06M) in the prior year. The company also turned around last year’s loss, posting a Profit for the Period of GH¢24.7 million (US$2.26M), compared with a loss of GH¢3.0 million (US$274.1K) in the corresponding quarter of FY2024.
Total assets rose to GH¢1.92 billion (US$175.42M), up from GH¢1.79 billion (US$163.54M), while total liabilities increased to GH¢1.14 billion (US$104.16M). Total equity strengthened modestly to GH¢776.4 million (US$70.94M) from GH¢751.7 million (US$68.68M), supported by retained earnings from the quarter’s profit. No dividends were declared during the three-month period.
The company’s latest results follow a strong FY2025 performance, during which Guinness Ghana Breweries achieved a tenfold increase in net profit to GH¢334.6 million (US$26.5 million), supported by a 15.4% growth in sales volumes across its beverage portfolio.
In July 2025, Diageo completed the sale of its 80.4% stake in GGBL to Castel Group, marking the brewer’s transition under new ownership.
The divestment was part of Diageo’s broader strategy to streamline its global portfolio and focus on core brand operations through strategic partnerships.
