UGANDA- Food delivery platform Glovo has announced a partnership with Zembo Electric Bikes, which is a step towards achieving zero emissions and offering more employment opportunities to women and the youth in the food and FMCG delivery business.
According to both companies, 50 riders have already joined the e-commerce platform. The two companies are optimistic that more riders will join via the partnership.
Glovo has lauded the move, acknowledging that the partnership with Zembo Electric Bikes will help the food delivery platform further leverage the growth of e-commerce in Uganda and provide more opportunities to women and the youth.
Although Ivy Maingi, Glovo’s Country Director, did not reveal the partnership details, she said the two companies are reaching out to financial institutions and potential partners.
“One of the key things with e-commerce, is you have flexible hours, you have an opportunity to create your job and we are trying to reach out more to financial institutions,” Maingi said during the partnership’s announcement.
The partnership is expected to empower the special interest groups described, providing them with access to training and employment avenues. The move is expected to improve Glovo’s brand image in Uganda and beyond, as the company tries to further consolidate market share.
According to a recent market study, Glovo is the most preferred e-commerce platform in both Uganda and Kenya, enjoying a consolidated market share of 33% for food delivery and 46% for grocery delivery. The Ugandan e-commerce market is predicted to increase by a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.8% between 2024 and 2028.
Market analysts have lauded the move, praising Glovo for pioneering a paradigm shift towards zero efficiency in the e-commerce sector.
Zembo also hailed the move, reiterating the partnership to provide the electric bike manufacturer with a unique opportunity to leverage the growing e-commerce sector and expand its reach in the market.
James Obarawski, Zembo’s CEO said, “The e-commerce growth is very visible among the youth and women, we would like to work with Glovo in the delivery business to reduce the emmissions in the course of doing their work.”
