CANADA – In a recent announcement, Francis Drouin, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, revealed that the Canadian government will be investing up to US$5.5 million over the next three years in Group Export Agri-Food Québec-Canada.
This funding, provided through the AgriMarketing Program under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, aims to help Canadian agri-food businesses expand their presence in international markets.
Group Export will use the funds to support Canadian companies as they enter foreign markets for the first time or enhance their current international operations.
The overarching goal is to empower these companies to promote their agri-food products globally, secure significant sales and contracts, and boost the overall value of Canadian agri-food exports across various product categories.
The project will feature a range of initiatives, including organizing business meetings, facilitating attendance at international trade shows, offering technical training, and coordinating trade missions.
These efforts are expected to open new avenues for Canadian agri-food products, fostering international business relationships and increasing market access.
Lawrence MacAulay, Canada’s Minister of Agriculture, highlighted the success of the country’s agriculture and food exports, which nearly hit US$100 billion last year.
“This momentum is a testament to the dedication of Canadian producers, processors, and exporters. We aim to position Canada as the preferred supplier for customers worldwide. This investment is crucial in giving our exporters the tools they need to get their high-quality products into more homes globally,” MacAulay stated.
Drouin echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the economic benefits of the investment. “We’re thrilled to support Group Export in aiding businesses that are new to international markets and enhancing the operations of those already trading globally. This initiative will stimulate economic growth and increase profits for our hardworking producers,” he said.
Martin Lavoie, President and CEO of Group Export Agri-Food, expressed gratitude for the continued support from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
“Quebec’s agri-food exports reached $11.3 billion in 2023, and this funding will undoubtedly help drive further growth in the coming years,” Lavoie noted.
