Kenya’s Express Kitchen invests over US$25,000 in new Kasarani Chicken Cottage branch

KENYA – Express Kitchen Ltd is expanding its fast-food footprint with the opening of a new Chicken Cottage branch in Kasarani, Nairobi.

The newly launched outlet, which sits within the Hass Petroleum petrol station along Kasarani–Mwiki Road, is the company’s eighth Chicken Cottage location in Kenya.

The Kasarani outlet cost over US$25,000 (KSh3.3 million) to set up, in line with investments made in similar locations.

This latest opening increases the total number of Express Kitchen outlets, including other brands, to 16 across the country.

According to Director Abdirashid Jabane, the Kasarani outlet is part of the company’s continued push to make affordable fast food more accessible to urban customers.

He said that Express Kitchen remains a locally owned business and is focused on serving Kenyan communities with quality meals at prices they can manage.

The Kasarani outlet becomes the second Chicken Cottage branch to be opened in partnership with Hass Petroleum, following an earlier one launched in Narok last year.

Hass Petroleum CEO Mohamud Salat said that the new addition fits into their strategy of developing service stations into multi-use spaces where families and motorists can shop, eat, and refuel.

He added that Chicken Cottage’s offerings meet the needs of a growing consumer base looking for convenient food options on the go.

The company confirmed that delivery services for the Kasarani branch will be available through Glovo, Uber Eats, and Bolt Food to complement its walk-in customers.

Express Kitchen operates both the Chicken Cottage and Papa John’s Pizza brands in Kenya, and it plans to continue expanding in the near future.

Retail partnership with Hass Petroleum grows

Hass Petroleum currently runs 38 retail petrol stations across Kenya and has more than 150 sites spread out in nine countries across Africa and the Middle East.

The company has increasingly focused on turning some of its petrol stations into retail hubs that include restaurants and other customer services.

This model has helped fuel Express Kitchen’s growth by giving it access to motorists and high-traffic areas without the cost of standalone outlets.

The founders of Chicken Cottage, directors from both companies, and the chairperson of Hass Petroleum were present during the Kasarani launch.

Chicken Cottage, which originated in the UK, has seen steady growth in Kenya since Express Kitchen began rolling it out in 2024.
