AGL Côte d’Ivoire moves five locomotives for Abidjan Metro Line 1

The operation included lifting, loading onto two hydraulic trailers, technical and safety checks, escorted transport, and final unloading.

CÔTE D’IVOIRE – Africa Global Logistics Côte d’Ivoire has transported five railway locomotives weighing a total of 332.28 metric tons for the construction of Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro, from the Port of Abidjan to the Abobo Sagbé receiving site, according to a company statement.

The operation, carried out on behalf of COLAS RAIL, marks an operational stage in mobilizing the resources required for the urban mobility project.

Operational scope

AGL Côte d’Ivoire managed the entire operational chain, from unloading the locomotives under a hoist at the port to placing them on rails at the receiving site.

The operation included lifting, loading onto two hydraulic trailers, technical and safety checks, escorted transport, and final unloading.

In addition, the company mobilized two Nicolas hydraulic trailers, road tractors dedicated to exceptional transport, a 400-tonne crane, and specialized lifting, securing, escort, and supervision equipment.

Route preparation and coordination

This oversized transport operation required route surveys, analysis of transport and lifting risks, definition of securing procedures, and coordination with port authorities, security forces, and the project’s technical teams.

Moreover, each step was carried out in accordance with AGL’s health, safety, and environmental standards, with prior equipment checks, marking of intervention areas, and continuous supervision of maneuvers.

“Beyond its technical aspects, this operation puts our expertise at the service of a project that will sustainably transform mobility in Abidjan. The success of this transport relies on meticulous planning, specialized equipment, and precise coordination of all stakeholders. It reflects our ability to provide concrete logistical solutions to the needs of major infrastructure projects in Côte d’Ivoire,” said Dieudonné Gaïbaï, Managing Director of AGL Côte d’Ivoire.

Company profile

AGL Côte d’Ivoire employs more than 1,500 Ivorian staff across branches in Abidjan, San Pedro, Bouaké, Ferkessédougou, and Ouangolodougou. The company provides training through the Port Professions Training Center (A’cademy) and partners with institutions, including the Félix Houphouët-Boigny National Polytechnic Institute.

Finally, by ensuring the transport and loading of these locomotives onto the rail network, AGL Côte d’Ivoire helps mobilize the railway resources needed to advance the project.
