ASNS Ingredients invests US$ 165.2M in its new facility at Latvia

This facility will focus on producing yellow pea protein isolate, along with other plant-based products like starch, fiber, and protein concentrate.

LATVIA – ASNS Ingredients, a company specialising in the production of plant-based proteins, has invested more than US$ 165.2 million in its new factory to boost production.

According to the company, the investment will not only help in the construction of the facility, but also in supporting infrastructure for energy, water treatment, and biogas, developed in partnership with external providers.

The construction of the factory, which began at the end of last year, is expected to be completed at the end of 2026, and it will be the world’s most modern and second-largest pea protein production plant.

Once operational, the factory will process 70,000 tons of peas annually, transforming locally grown crops into plant-based protein products for both domestic and global markets while significantly contributing to the growth of Latvia’s agriculture and food sector.

The company stated that the warehouse frame is complete, and work across the site is well underway. The first production equipment is already en route from Europe and the USA, with installation set to begin this summer.

Edgars Ruža, the board member of “ASNS Ingredient, said, “We can already see that there is a great demand for this type of products, because in many parts of the world there is a lack of opportunities to procure food in sufficient quantities, so it is urgent to produce substitutes for specific products.

“These products can be used in the food, medical and agricultural sectors, creating additional opportunities for innovation.”
