Barramundi Group appoints Eric Tsang as Independent Director

SINGAPORE – Barramundi Group Ltd, a prominent aquaculture company headquartered in Singapore, has named Eric Tsang as an independent director.

Tsang, who currently holds the position of Chief of Staff at a single-family office in Hong Kong, brings with him over 20 years of experience in institutional banking, investment management, and entrepreneurship across the Asia Pacific region.

His expertise in these areas is anticipated to play a critical role in steering Barramundi Group through its ongoing corporate changes.

According to the company, Tsang’s current responsibilities involve overseeing private equity, venture capital, and private market investments, and his experience extends to managing relationships with sovereign institutions, asset managers, and banks.

Barramundi Group’s board expressed optimism that Tsang’s background in cross-border business development and institutional relationship management will significantly contribute to the company’s objectives as it navigates this period of restructuring.

Tsang’s career is marked by notable achievements in financial operations and strategic advisory, particularly in capital markets, structured products, asset management, and real estate financing.

The board of Barramundi Group highlighted that his strategic vision and leadership skills would be instrumental in the company’s future growth trajectory.

The company, recognized as one of the leading global producers of barramundi, has been making significant strides in expanding its operations.

Earlier this year, Barramundi Group announced that its Brunei operations secured a funding offer of BND $15 million (US$11.5 million) from a Bruneian financial institution.

This funding, once finalized, will support the construction of a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) broodstock and hatchery center.

The facility will enhance the company’s existing RAS nursery operations and enable the deployment of sea cages at its Pelong Rocks sea lease, with deployment expected by mid-2024.

Additionally, the group underwent a notable divestment last year when Australian salmon and shrimp farmer Tassal, a subsidiary of global seafood giant Cooke, acquired Barramundi Group’s Australian farming subsidiary, MPA Fish Farms Pty Ltd.

The sale occurred after Barramundi Group appointed administrators for MPA in May 2023, following a failed attempt to sell the operation earlier in the year.
