Egypt is producing 60% of red meat, nears full poultry self-sufficiency – Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.

EGYPT – Egypt now produces 60% of its red meat domestically while reaching near-complete self-sufficiency in poultry, according to Mohamed el Qersh, spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.

Qersh said the government’s food security program prioritizes veterinary services, livestock development, and maintaining a steady supply of safe and high-quality animal products.

Regular inspections at veterinary pharmaceutical facilities are being conducted to ensure service standards, confirm licensing, and monitor the safety of veterinary drugs.

He added that these measures are essential for safeguarding animal health and increasing the country’s capacity for domestic food production.

This announcement follows recent reports that Egypt is strengthening agricultural cooperation with Kuwait, focusing on livestock, fish farming, and meat industry development.

Alaa Farouk, Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, met with Mohamed Gaber Abou El Wafa, the new Egyptian ambassador to Kuwait, to discuss potential joint ventures and investment opportunities in agriculture.

Abou El Wafa is scheduled to assume his duties in Kuwait in the coming days, according to ministry sources.

During the talks, Farouk outlined Egypt’s expanding capabilities in livestock production, veterinary vaccines and medicines, and aquaculture, highlighting fish farming and poultry as rapidly growing sectors.

He encouraged Kuwaiti investors to consider these areas as opportunities for stable and potentially profitable investment projects.

Farouk also emphasized that Egypt has made significant efforts to improve the regulatory environment and technical support for food security initiatives.

He suggested that Kuwaiti delegations visit Egypt to directly evaluate the potential for agricultural collaboration and trade expansion.

Abou El Wafa indicated that agriculture will be a focus of his mission in Kuwait and recognized Egypt’s progress in animal health management and aquaculture.

He stated that the goal of the dialogue is to translate discussions into concrete steps that can increase trade and investment flows between Egypt and Kuwait.
