Lantmännen acquires two Swedish slaughterhouses

Scan Sverige, part of Swedish cooperative Lantmännen, has purchased Delsbo Slakteri and Jämtlandsgården Livsmedel to expand its beef and lamb processing operations.

SWEDEN – Swedish agricultural cooperative Lantmännen, through its meat and charcuterie subsidiary Scan Sverige, has reached an agreement to buy two slaughterhouses in Sweden, with the financial details of the deal not disclosed.

The acquired facilities, Delsbo Slakteri and Jämtlandsgården Livsmedel, are owned by Mattias Norell and Thomas Gill via their joint venture Delsbo Kött.

Lantmännen said the transaction is intended to support domestic livestock production as demand for Swedish meat continues to rise and will require additional capacity.

Scan Sverige CEO Lars Appelqvist explained that the acquisition increases slaughtering capacity in Norrland and creates opportunities for closer collaboration with regional suppliers.

Both slaughterhouses specialise in processing beef and lamb, and together they generate around Skr190 million (US$21 million) in annual turnover while employing roughly 40 staff members.

Norell and Gill noted that their companies have long collaborated with Scan Sverige and expect the acquisition to help maintain production levels and operational capacity.

They added that they look forward to working with Scan Sverige, employees, and suppliers to ensure a continued supply of Swedish meat from northern regions.

The purchase is pending regulatory approval, with the transaction expected to conclude in the first half of 2026.

Lantmännen operates in multiple sectors including food production, crop cultivation, seeds, and agricultural machinery, with food brands such as Axa breakfast products, Finn Crisp, Gyllenhammars oats, and GoGreen vegan lines.

In recent months, Lantmännen Unibake acquired Italian frozen bread manufacturer Panificio San Francesco, while Scan Sverige also bought the Swedish charcuterie brand Slaktarkorv, and Unibake added Dutch baked goods producer Boboli Benelux to its portfolio.
