Macallan Food Group acquires Malcolm Allan, Macsween’s of Edinburgh

UK – Scottish food enterprise Macallan Food Group has acquired two esteemed local meat producers, Malcolm Allan from Falkirk and Macsween’s of Edinburgh.

The financial terms of the transactions remain undisclosed.

Macallan Food Group, headquartered south of Edinburgh, is primarily owned by CriSeren Foods, the food division of the holding company CriSeren, according to Companies House records.

Bill Hazeldean, chairman of both Macallan Food Group and CriSeren Foods, emphasized that the acquisitions align with their commitment to long-term investments, backed by a family trust.

“The core values and business ethos will remain unchanged,” Hazeldean stated.

Malcolm Allan and Macsween’s will continue to operate as distinct entities under the Macallan umbrella, leveraging synergies where beneficial while preserving their unique identities and strengths.

Hazeldean reassured stakeholders that it would be “business as usual” as they implement a 200-day plan and formulate future strategies.

James Macsween, founder and director of Macsween’s, has been appointed to the Macallan board, effective from the end of June, as indicated by Companies House filings.

Malcolm Allan’s product line includes sausages, breakfast and steak pies, minced and diced steak, meatballs, burgers, and black puddings.

Their products are available in major Scottish retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, Iceland, and Waitrose.

Macsween’s specializes in meat-based and vegetarian haggis, distributed within the UK through retailers like Sainsbury’s, Booths, and Morrisons, and internationally via distributors in Europe, Canada, and Singapore.

The sale of Malcolm Allan coincides with the retirement of its joint managing directors, James and Gordon Allan, who have led the family business for over 50 years.

Reflecting on the sale, Gordon Allan expressed confidence in the new ownership’s ability to uphold the company’s values and reputation.
