Red Bull, Rauch and Ball Corp launch US$1.5B beverage manufacturing hub in North Carolina
The massive Concord project will create 700 jobs and produce up to 3 billion cans annually for U.S. and global markets.
USA – Red Bull, Rauch North America and Ball Corporation have begun construction on a US$1.5 billion manufacturing and distribution campus at the former Philip Morris site in Concord, North Carolina.
Initially announced in 2021, the project represents one of Cabarrus County’s largest-ever economic development initiatives and is expected to transform the regional economy.
Spanning nearly 2.4 million square feet, the new campus will create approximately 700 jobs and deliver substantial production and distribution capacity for Red Bull products in the U.S. and international markets.
The facility will be capable of producing up to 3 billion cans annually once fully operational.
Ball Corporation will also construct an 800,000-square-foot aluminum can plant within the industrial park, supplying packaging for Red Bull and other beverage brands.
Rauch North America is investing US$680 million in a state-of-the-art can-filling operation, while Red Bull and Ball Corporation are committing US$424 million and US$383 million, respectively, to build a regional distribution center and can manufacturing facility.
The project marks a significant turnaround for the site, which has faced economic challenges since Philip Morris closed its operations there in 2009. The site, now known as The Grounds at Concord, spans over 2,000 acres and is becoming a hub for industrial and manufacturing investments.
Originally projected to begin operations in late 2022, the project experienced several delays but is now moving forward in 2025 with renewed momentum. The total investment was increased from US$1.1 billion to US$1.5 billion, reflecting the growing confidence of the companies involved.
Once complete, the campus will position North Carolina as a major production and distribution center for the energy beverage sector, supporting Red Bull’s continued growth in the U.S. and beyond.
