SWEDEN – Swedish poultry producer Scandi Standard has finalized the acquisition of an integrated poultry processing company in Lithuania.
The deal, first announced in August, involved an undisclosed Lithuanian business.
The company confirmed that all conditions for the acquisition have been fulfilled, and it is preparing to begin operations within the coming weeks.
The Lithuanian facility is expected to contribute between 20,000 and 25,000 metric tons of products annually, based on grill weight.
When initially announcing the transaction, Scandi Standard disclosed a purchase price of €23.5 million (approximately US$26 million).
Jonas Tunestål, CEO of Scandi Standard, highlighted the strategic importance of the deal, stating that the acquisition will not only strengthen the company’s business but also enable it to serve more cost-sensitive market segments.
Tunestål also noted that the Lithuanian operations will help meet the stringent raw material standards required for Scandi Standard’s ready-to-eat products.
Scandi Standard is currently the largest poultry producer in Sweden and ranks as the 15th largest broiler producer in Europe, according to the WATTPoultry.com Top Poultry Companies Database.
Last year, the company processed 177.5 million chickens. Scandi Standard operates several well-known brands, including Kronfågel, De Danske Familiegårde, Den Stolte Hane, Sicín Sásta, and Naapurin Maalaiskana.
The company has been trying to extend its foothold in Lithuania. In August, the company finalized a deal to purchase a vertically integrated poultry meat business in the Baltic country.
The acquisition, valued at EUR23.5 million (US$26 million), includes the company’s assets and entire business.
The sellers consist of several local Lithuanian firms, and the transaction encompasses a modern poultry processing facility, poultry farms, and land.
Scandi Standard, which operates across several European markets, has been working to establish a stronger presence in Lithuania for some time.
