The new investment aims to boost production capacity, efficiency, and long-term industrial growth in Rwanda.

RWANDA – SKOL Brewery Ltd, a subsidiary of Belgium-based UNIBRA, has unveiled plans to invest between US$25 million and US$35 million over the next five years to expand its production capabilities in Rwanda.
The announcement came during a visit by Minister of Trade and Industry Prudence Sebahizi, alongside officials from MINICOM and representatives from other government agencies.
The ministerial delegation toured the brewery as part of a broader national initiative aimed at assessing industrial performance, identifying operational challenges, and exploring opportunities to enhance productivity and job creation across the manufacturing sector.
During the visit, SKOL Brewery owner Thibault Relecom highlighted the company’s growth since entering the Rwandan market in 2010.
He noted that while SKOL operates in multiple countries, its Rwandan branch has built a strong local presence with popular brands such as Virunga and Gatanu.
Relecom acknowledged the supportive environment created by the Rwandan government, which he said has played a key role in the company’s ongoing expansion.
Relecom also raised infrastructure concerns, particularly regarding the deteriorated condition of the road leading to the brewery. He explained that the poor state of the road affects transportation efficiency, damages vehicles, and slows delivery of both raw materials and finished products.
According to Relecom, the planned investment will focus on increasing production capacity, enhancing operational efficiency, and positioning the company for future market growth as consumer demand continues to rise.
Minister Sebahizi commended SKOL Brewery for its contribution to Rwanda’s manufacturing industry and restated the government’s commitment to supporting enterprises that add value to local resources.
He emphasized the importance of industries meeting domestic demand while also strengthening Rwanda’s export potential.
Beyond its industrial activities, SKOL Brewery has maintained a prominent role in supporting sports and education initiatives in Rwanda.
The company has invested in football and cycling development and provides scholarships to students across various academic levels, reinforcing its broader social impact within the community.
