Superior Foods opens new US$8.1M poultry processing plant in Serbia

The investment doubles the company’s annual processing capacity and strengthens regional supply chains.

SERBIA – Superior Foods has commenced operations at a new poultry processing facility in Bačinci, Serbia, following an investment of EUR7 million (US$8.1 million).

The opening was attended by Serbia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Prof. Dr. Dragan Glamočić, alongside the President of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians and Member of Parliament, Prof. Dr. Balint Pastor, among other dignitaries.

According to the ministry, the company’s reconstruction and modernization efforts have doubled its poultry processing capacity to more than 14 million birds annually.

Superior Foods currently employs around 260 workers, with plans to increase its workforce to over 300 in the next phase of operations.

Minister Glamočić said the investment highlights how stable private sector initiatives can enhance not only production but also the broader poultry supply chain.

He noted that Superior Foods collaborates with more than 50 farms across Serbia and neighboring regions, creating a vertically integrated system that links breeding, processing, and marketing.

The minister added that such projects demonstrate the direction Serbia’s agriculture is taking—focusing on producing and exporting value-added products rather than raw materials.

He also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting agricultural investments that generate employment, boost exports, and drive rural economic growth.

Hungarian investment partnership

Hungary’s Hodler Asset Management played a key role in financing the new plant, recognizing Serbia as a stable and secure market for agrifood investments.

Speaking at the inauguration, Pastor said the project is a tangible result of strong bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Hungary, noting that it promotes regional stability and development.

He described the investment as a source of new jobs, advanced technology, and knowledge transfer that will benefit the Srem region and the local community.

Miklos Kerezsi, Chairman of the Board at Hodler Asset Management, said the project represents a long-term commitment to supporting Serbia’s agricultural and food industries.

He emphasized that the investment in Superior Foods is part of a wider regional growth plan aimed at building an integrated value chain that connects poultry breeding, processing, and product distribution across the Balkans.
