The Irishman Whiskey expands into Nigeria, strengthening premium spirits market presence

The Irishman Whiskey has officially debuted in Nigeria, reflecting rising demand for premium spirits and Africa’s expanding beverage market.

NIGERIA – The Irishman Whiskey, one of Ireland’s leading premium whiskey brands, has officially launched in Nigeria, marking a strategic step into Africa’s largest consumer market.

Renowned for its smooth finish and rich flavour, The Irishman is crafted using centuries-old Irish tradition. The brand’s entry into Nigeria aims to tap into the country’s vibrant social culture and growing appetite for premium spirits.

Speaking during the launch, James Kilgannon, Global Brand Ambassador for The Irishman Whiskey, emphasized Nigeria’s importance to the brand’s global expansion strategy.

He noted that the country’s energy and appreciation for quality experiences align with the values of the whiskey.

“The Irishman is about moments shared, conversations sparked, and traditions honoured, and the brand is proud to share its heritage with Nigeria’s culture of connection and celebration,” he said.

Sudipto Chakraborty, Head of Commercial at Ekulo International Limited, the brand’s official Nigerian distributor, said the partnership will benefit both consumers and the wider trade sector.

“This collaboration allows Nigerian consumers access to a premium global brand, while offering retailers and hospitality stakeholders an opportunity to expand their portfolios with a whiskey of strong international appeal,” he explained.

According to IWSR Drinks Market Analysis, Nigeria is among the top 10 fastest-growing spirits markets globally. Whiskey accounts for a significant portion of imported premium alcohol, alongside cognac and champagne.

Over 15 million liters of whiskey are consumed annually in Nigeria. The premium whiskey segment is growing at nearly 10% year-on-year. Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt lead as whiskey hotspots. The launch positions The Irishman to meet the rising demand for refined spirits, while strengthening Ireland’s trade links with West Africa.

The Nigerian debut follows The Irishman’s successful expansions across Europe, North America, and Asia, where it has consistently ranked among the most awarded Irish whiskey brands.
