Zambeef Products PLC opens new US$15M poultry facility at Chisamba Huntley farm

Each house at the newly opened facility can accommodate 45,000 birds per cycle.

ZAMBIA – Zambeef Products PLC has officially opened a new Environmentally Controlled House (ECH) at its Chisamba Huntley farm, with each unit designed to accommodate up to 45,000 birds in one production cycle.

The new infrastructure forms part of the company’s poultry division expansion, which has received US$15 million (K396 million) out of the US$100 million (K2.64 billion) investment package unveiled in 2021.

The ECH facility is intended to improve poultry health, support higher output, and reduce the environmental impact typically associated with conventional rearing methods.

Zambeef CEO Faith Mukutu led the launch event and took the opportunity to interact directly with poultry small and medium-scale outgrower farmers at the site.

The engagement was aimed at showing how technology, sustainability practices, and modern infrastructure can influence productivity and contribute to long-term business stability.

Mukutu stated that the new model would not only enhance production but would also have social benefits for poultry farmers and the communities they support.

The facility is expected to create more opportunities for MSME outgrowers by linking them to technical training, consistent market access, and a structured value chain.

According to the company, this model ties in with Zambeef’s broader Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, and supports a range of global development targets.

Among the Sustainable Development Goals linked to the investment are zero hunger, climate action, decent work, and innovation in industry and infrastructure.

The company says the poultry division upgrade also aligns with its goal of reducing poverty through inclusive economic participation.

Zambeef currently employs over 8,000 people directly and supports thousands more indirectly through its network of small-scale suppliers and service providers.

Through its poultry unit, the company says it aims to create a sustainable ecosystem that builds long-term livelihoods for farmers and their families.

The CEO added that poultry farmers are considered vital partners in this process and that capacity-building efforts will remain a priority.

Zambeef has acknowledged the role of government bodies, trade groups, regulators, and other private sector players in supporting the development of its poultry supply chain.
