ZAMBIA – Zambian agri-tech company eMsika, founded in 2016 by Gilbert Mwale and Elton Chirwa, is gearing up for a significant regional expansion following its success in Zambia.
Specializing in digital solutions tailored for poultry producers, eMsika has distinguished itself in the agriculture industry with its FarmHouse app, designed specifically to cater to the needs of small-scale poultry farmers in urban settings.
The FarmHouse app extends beyond transactional functionalities to include educational modules aimed at enhancing poultry farming skills and fostering a sense of community among farmers.
This emphasis on education and networking is complemented by the Farmhouse Plus program, a membership initiative that provides additional benefits to farmers, showcasing eMsika’s commitment to supporting its users comprehensively.
Before eMsika’s inception, small poultry farmers faced challenges accessing user-friendly digital tools that addressed their specific needs.
Existing agricultural technology solutions were often too general to effectively support smallholder poultry growers.
Recognizing this gap, eMsika developed the FarmHouse app, a comprehensive platform that not only facilitates transactions for essential supplies like day-old chicks, feed, and immunizations but also offers personalized on-farm technical support.
With nearly 2,000 downloads of the FarmHouse app and online training provided to over 8,000 farmers, eMsika has made a significant impact on the Zambian poultry farming sector.
Buoyed by this success and the popularity of its Poultry Manager feature, eMsika is embarking on an ambitious expansion plan targeting Tanzania, Nigeria, Egypt, and Zimbabwe.
The company is actively seeking strategic partnerships to facilitate its entry into these new markets.
Financially, eMsika has secured US$150,000 in funding through stock investments, grants, and collaborations, with an additional US$50,000 currently being raised.
These funds will support marketing initiatives aimed at expanding their market presence, ongoing technological advancements to keep the FarmHouse app innovative, and crucial team expansions to strengthen operational capabilities.
