ZRA names Zambeef top tax payer in agriculture sector for 2025

Zambeef receives second tax compliance award from the Zambia Revenue Authority

ZAMBIA – The Zambia Revenue Authority has recognised Zambeef Products PLC as the leading tax-paying company in the agriculture sector for 2025.

This becomes the firm’s second such recognition within two years as its tax remittances have increased steadily over the past five years.

According to the company, the higher tax contribution is the result of an ongoing strategy to scale up production capacity and increase the supply of affordable food products across the region.

Zambeef announced in 2022 that it would inject US$100 million into various parts of its operations as part of this expansion plan.

Speaking on the latest award, Chief Financial Officer Patrick Kalifungwa said the recognition reflects the company’s drive to grow its operations, improve its internal systems and meet its tax obligations consistently.

The company has described 2025 as a positive year overall, pointing to its July announcement that it had been named Best Agriculture Investor at the Invest in Zambia International Conference hosted by the Zambia Development Agency.

This award was tied to the same US$100 million capital programme, which has supported livestock upgrades, retail improvements and new investments in meat processing facilities.

As part of the rollout, Zambeef has commissioned upgraded operations at Mpongwe and Chisamba farms and increased the size of its transport fleet to strengthen product distribution.

The company has also expanded its livestock units to align production levels with local demand for meat products.

Zambeef reports that the wider investment plan has sustained more than 8,000 direct jobs and created roughly 260,000 indirect opportunities through suppliers and other value chain players.

The firm states it is currently working with more than 100,000 small-scale farmers linked to structured supply chains and formal purchase agreements.

It further claims that its activities now account for more than 1 percent of Zambia’s gross domestic product.

Poultry expansion continues

Alongside its meat operations, Zambeef has begun strengthening its poultry segment through a new Environmentally Controlled House facility at Huntley farm in Chisamba.

The poultry project forms part of a US$15 million allocation set aside for the segment within the broader capital expansion plan.

Each unit is built to accommodate up to 45,000 birds per cycle and is designed to limit environmental impacts associated with older rearing systems.

During the commissioning ceremony, Chief Executive Officer Faith Mukutu met poultry outgrowers and highlighted new training and infrastructure support being offered to improve production consistency.

She said the upgraded facility is expected to give small and medium enterprises access to stable markets, structured supply chains and technical training.
