Philippines’ Zamboanga City breaks ground on 22-hectare poultry facility
Project is a joint venture between CPF Philippines and Mega Fishing Corporation.
PHILIPPINES – Groundbreaking for the 22-hectare Mega CP Farms-Later Complex in Sinubong village, Zamboanga City, was held on March 20, marking the start of development.
City officials said the facility is intended to expand poultry production capacity and strengthen sustainable food supply systems in Zamboanga City and nearby areas.
The construction phase is expected to take eight to 10 months, with the farm slated to begin operations by late 2026.
Expected Impact
The new poultry complex is projected to increase egg production, create employment opportunities, help stabilise local food prices, and support the wider agricultural value chain in the region.
Charoen Pokphand Food (CPF) Philippines Corporation and Mega Fishing Corporation are partnering on the project through a joint venture to oversee its development.
The groundbreaking ceremony included Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Olaso, Vice Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco, Councillor Joselito Macrohon, Sinubong Village chairperson Ericleto Casepe, and CPF executives Sakol Cheewakoset, Phaisam Rewriab, and Nattakorn Sujipittham.
Poultry Industry Growth
Philippine chicken production reached a record high in the first quarter of 2025, showing a year-on-year increase in output among livestock commodities.
Egg production also rose in Q1 2025, maintaining chicken as the country’s leading livestock product while responding to growing domestic demand.
Industry data indicate that Central Luzon remains one of the top chicken-producing regions, with the national chicken population estimated in the millions as of early 2022.
Market Trends
Poultry demand has been rising due to population growth and industrial partnerships such as the Cargill Philippines and Jollibee joint venture, which has supported steady consumption.
Despite high demand, increased production has helped manage farmgate and retail prices for broiler chickens.
Forecasts suggest that chicken output could reach several million metric tons by 2026 as production technology improves and demand continues to grow.
Egg production is also expected to continue its upward trajectory, increasing both supply and availability for local consumers.
The new Zamboanga facility is expected to contribute to these industry trends while providing jobs and strengthening the city’s food security.
