SAUDI ARABIA – Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have advanced bilateral trade and transport cooperation through a new digital customs linkage and continued railway collaboration, aimed at improving cross-border logistics and supporting economic integration.
The initiatives are designed to expedite customs clearance, enhance data security and strengthen transport connectivity between the two Gulf countries, with railway cooperation on track for completion before the end of 2026.
The land-based customs technical link between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait enables the secure, immediate exchange of customs data from the exporting country before shipments reach the Al-Khafji and Al-Ruqai border crossings.
Therefore, by allowing customs authorities to begin processing documentation before goods reach the border, the system aims to reduce delays and improve the efficiency of cross-border trade.
Digital Customs Linkage and Trade Efficiency
The digital customs linkage was developed using standardized data models and underwent system integration testing. According to the information provided, the system reduces duplicate data entry, accelerates customs clearance, and improves risk management efficiency.

The collaboration focuses on developing railway and metro systems in Kuwait, with three of the five major project milestones already completed.
KSA’s Transport General Authority has shared its railway regulations with Kuwait as part of the cooperation, and the project remains on track for completion before the end of 2026. Simultaneously, the two nations are collaborating on a transnational railway project to improve regional connectivity.
