Red Sea ports handle 14,000 tonnes of cargo in single day across Safaga, Nuweiba

EGYPT – Ports operated by Egypt’s Red Sea Ports Authority have handled 14,000 tonnes of cargo through 14 vessel arrivals and departures on August 23, as the maritime hubs managed a healthy balance between import and export activities while processing significant volumes of commercial vehicles, personal cars, and over a thousand daily passengers.

Port activity included seven vessels handling imports of 4,000 tonnes of cargo, 317 trucks, and 89 vehicles, while seven vessels involved in exports handled 10,000 tonnes of cargo, 425 trucks, and 68 vehicles.

Meanwhile, Nuweiba Port handled 5,800 tonnes of cargo and 283 trucks via shuttle operations with four vessels: Ayla, Al Hussein, Awr and Sina.

Passenger traffic also remained active, with the authority recording the arrival and departure of 1,300 passengers across its ports during the day.

Operational Highlights and Trade Balance

The figures highlight the continued role of Egypt’s Red Sea ports in handling cargo, vehicles and passengers along the country’s eastern maritime gateway. Key locations such as Safaga and Nuweiba served as the primary hubs for these vessel movements and shuttle operations.

In addition, the import-export volume distribution highlights the ports’ role in facilitating both inbound and outbound trade. The higher export volume (10,000 tonnes) compared with imports (4,000 tonnes) highlights the ports’ importance in supporting Egypt’s export-oriented industries and regional trade connectivity.

Earlier August Performance

Earlier this month, on August 9, ports operated by Egypt’s Red Sea Ports Authority handled 13,000 tonnes of cargo across 10 vessels, alongside 666 trucks and 102 cars. Import activity accounted for 6,000 tonnes, while exports totalled 7,000 tonnes.

Safaga Port recorded four vessel movements, while Nuweiba Port handled 4,400 tonnes of cargo and 237 trucks through shuttle operations involving three vessels.

The ports also recorded 1,257 passenger movements, according to Egypt’s State Information Service.

This consistent performance on both dates further proves the continued productivity and the vital infrastructure management provided by the Egyptian government.

Lastly, these statistics illustrate the vital role these ports play as strategic maritime gateways for regional trade and travel.
