African Originals expands KO gin cocktail line with new flavors

AO launches three new KO gin flavors and celebrates multiple local and international award wins.

KENYA – African Originals (AO) has expanded its KO gin portfolio with the introduction of three new flavors, a move the company says aligns with rising consumer demand for low-alcohol options in the Kenyan market.

The new additions include KO Mukhombero gin cocktail, Lemon Cello, and Mocha Toffy, each crafted to broaden the appeal of the KO brand.

According to AO, the Mukhombero variant is a vibrant cocktail that combines KO Classic Gin with mango, local Mukhombero syrup, lime juice, and soda water.

The Lemon Cello, developed by Kenyan mixologists, blends KO Classic Gin with fresh lemon zest, elderflower, and sparkling water to create a light, refreshing drink.

These flavors join the existing KO cocktail gin lineup, which features Gin & Tonic, Spiced Orange Gin & Tonic, Very Berry, and other offerings.

Mara Gin wins top global honors

The launch forms part of AO’s wider focus on innovation and expanding access to premium, Kenyan-crafted beverages. Alongside the new product rollout, the company is celebrating significant recognition for its brands on both global and local stages.

AO’s Mara Gin was recently named Best Overall Spirit of the Year at the 2025 Asia Spirits Ratings. It also received the Gin of the Year title, a Gold medal, and the Best Spirit by Quality award. Earlier in the month, AO secured five accolades at the Kenya Beverage Excellence Awards 2025.

The KO brand earned two awards, with KO Dry Cider named the Most Preferred Cider and KO Tropical Iced Tea recognized as the Most Preferred Iced Tea.

AO’s 5.8 Gin also received two honors, winning Most Preferred Alcoholic Newcomer Beverage and Most Preferred Local Gin. Meanwhile, Mara Gin received the award for Most Preferred Unique Beverage Concept of the Year.
