Air India appoints Tewolde Gebremariam as CEO to lead global expansion
The Board unanimously concluded that Gebremariam possesses the ideal combination of leadership, deep operational expertise, and strategic execution capability.
INDIA – Air India has appointed Tewolde Gebremariam as the airline’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, succeeding Campbell Wilson, as the carrier transitions from its initial stabilization phase into a period of rapid international expansion.
Gebremariam is widely recognized as one of the most successful aviation chief executives, having spearheaded a multi-billion-dollar expansion during his decade-plus tenure as CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group.
He transformed a regional carrier into Africa’s largest and most profitable airline group, with revenue more than fourfold and fleet size nearly threefold.
Upon his appointment, Tewolde Gebremariam said: “It is a profound honour to be entrusted with leading Air India at such a historic moment in its journey.
