Coca-Cola expands Powerade brand with launch of Power Water functional range

Coca-Cola debuts Powerade Power Water, marking the brand’s first innovation in over five years to tap the growing functional water market.

USA – The Coca-Cola Company is expanding its Powerade portfolio beyond traditional sports drinks with the launch of a new functional water line, Powerade Power Water.

The innovation marks Powerade’s first product extension in over five years and positions the brand in the rapidly growing enhanced water segment.

According to Coca-Cola, Power Water contains 50% more electrolytes than competing products and is designed to deliver superior hydration. The beverage will debut regionally in October 2025 before a nationwide rollout and Amazon launch in 2026.

It will be available in four flavors: Mountain Berry Blast, Strawberry Kiwi, Tropical Pineapple, and Watermelon.

“Functional water is a natural extension for Powerade,” said Sabrina Niland, vice president of innovation, strategy, and chief of staff for BodyArmor Sports Nutrition. She added that the brand’s 2023 refresh in packaging and formulation helped drive seven consecutive quarters of market share growth.

The enhanced water category, valued at US$750 million per month, expanded by 13% between 2023 and 2024, underscoring consumer interest in hydration products that go beyond traditional sports beverages.

Coca-Cola will also utilize its bottling network for Powerade’s distribution for the first time, a move aimed at increasing brand reach and visibility.

Since acquiring BodyArmor in 2021 for US$5.6 billion, Coca-Cola has been executing a dual-brand hydration strategy—positioning Powerade for athletic performance and BodyArmor for natural, better-for-you offerings.

Power Water will be available in 20oz bottles and 16.9oz six-packs at regional retail stores this month, ahead of a broader U.S. and online launch next year.
