Plans include a new quay and more than 20 hectares of container yard space, with phased commissioning scheduled from late 2026 to early 2028.

GUINEA – Conakry Terminal, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL), part of the MSC Group, has set a target of more than 1 million containers annually by 2029-2030, up from 416,892 TEUs in 2025, according to terminal data.
In 2023, the terminal handled about 300,000 containers. Two years later, traffic had risen to 416,892 TEUs, an increase of about 39%.
In February 2026, Guinea’s Transport Ministry said the quay had already reached the capacity initially expected for 2030. A few months later, terminal officials confirmed that 2025 traffic was already at levels they had expected to reach by 2030.
Growth in services and capacity constraints
The number of regular services rose from three in 2023 to six in 2026, according to Conakry Terminal officials. In 2025, rising volumes were accompanied by congestion, prompting authorities to seek ways to improve cargo movement out of the port.
In April, the Transport Ministry said the congestion that had persisted for several months had ended and urged operators to maintain preventive measures. In February, AGL officials said rising volumes were pressuring the entire logistics chain around the port, not just port facilities.
Investment and expansion projects
Conakry Terminal has launched several projects to manage rising traffic. Nearly €250 million (approximately US$288.5 million) has already been invested in equipment upgrades and in developing the Kagbélén dry port.
Plans include a new quay and more than 20 hectares of container yard space, with phased commissioning scheduled from late 2026 to early 2028. The stated goal is to double the terminal’s operational area.
Leadership transition
The expansion is underway under new leadership. Édouard Leno was appointed Managing Director of Conakry Terminal in September 2026, succeeding Emmanuel Masson, who had led the terminal for more than five years.
Leno brings more than a decade of senior management experience at AGL, most recently serving as Regional Chief Financial Officer for Senegal, Mali, Gambia, Guinea, and Mauritania. He previously held roles in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Congo.
With more than 500,000 containers expected in 2026 and a target of more than 1 million by 2030, port-facility expansion will need to keep pace with demand, which has consistently exceeded forecasts.
As a result, the projects are intended to provide the terminal with additional capacity for its next phase of growth.
