Egypt eyes meat, agricultural ties with Kuwait

EGYPT – Egypt is intensifying its efforts to enhance agricultural cooperation with Kuwait, with a particular focus on fish farming, livestock production, and the meat-related industries.

Alaa Farouk, Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, held talks with Mohamed Gaber Abou El Wafa, Egypt’s newly appointed ambassador to Kuwait, to outline opportunities for joint ventures and investment in the sector. 

Abou El Wafa is set to begin his duties in Kuwait in the coming days.

During the discussions, Farouk highlighted Egypt’s growing capacity in livestock production, veterinary vaccines and medicines, and aquaculture. 

He noted that fish farming and poultry production are among the country’s fastest-growing agricultural activities, offering fertile ground for Kuwaiti investors seeking stable and profitable ventures.

“The government has taken major steps to improve the investment climate in food security,” Farouk said, stressing that Egypt’s technical expertise in disease control, veterinary services, and meat processing could support Kuwait’s food supply strategy.

Farouk further underlined the potential to boost exports of Egyptian meat and high-quality agricultural products to Kuwait, in line with rising demand in Gulf and global markets. 

He proposed organizing a Kuwaiti delegation visit to Egypt to explore these opportunities firsthand.

Ambassador Abou El Wafa pledged to make agriculture a priority during his tenure. 

He praised Egypt’s progress in animal health management and aquaculture, adding that the aim is to turn dialogue into practical steps that will increase trade and investment flows between both nations.

While livestock, fish, and meat production took center stage, the talks also touched on broader agricultural cooperation, including land reclamation, pest control, and agricultural manufacturing. 

Both sides agreed that strengthening ties in these areas will play a crucial role in enhancing food security for Egypt and Kuwait alike.
