Haigh’s Chocolates opens US$120M production hub in South Australia

With the new hub, the company is expected to increase production from 1,100 to 2,000 tonnes per year, allowing the business to meet growing consumer demand.

AUSTRALIA – Australia’s oldest family-owned chocolate company, Haigh’s Chocolates, has officially opened its new US$120 million production and logistics hub in Salisbury South, South Australia.

The purpose-built, 18,000-square-metre facility represents the largest single investment in the company’s 110-year history and marks a significant step in its growth strategy.

The complex is designed to support both retail and e-commerce channels, enabling Haigh’s to expand its national distribution while strengthening its production capabilities.

The company currently produces around 1,100 tonnes of chocolate annually to supply its 22 retail stores and online customers. With the new hub, this figure is expected to rise to 2,000 tonnes per year, allowing the business to meet growing consumer demand.

CEO Peter Millard described the opening as a pivotal moment for Haigh’s, noting that it is the culmination of several years of investment in people, systems, and infrastructure.

“The Salisbury South Complex is a significant physical manifestation of a company-wide investment in people, systems and capabilities over the last four years,” he said. “Today’s opening recognises the completion of our chocolate capacity-building phase, the continuing growth of our retail network in the eastern states and the meeting of increasing demand for our chocolate.”

The development of the Salisbury South hub has long been anticipated. In December 2023, Haigh’s released the initial designs for the project, showcasing its vision for a modern, sustainable, and highly efficient chocolate manufacturing and logistics centre.

Nearly two years later, the facility now stands as a milestone for the iconic South Australian brand.

The opening comes during a busy and celebratory period for Haigh’s. Less than two weeks ago, the company launched its Broadway store in Sydney, expanding its presence in New South Wales. Earlier this year, it marked its 110th anniversary, a milestone that reflects its enduring place in Australian culture.

Owner and Brand Ambassador Alister Haigh said the company remains committed to delivering chocolates that continue to delight Australians of all ages.

“In the last five months alone, we celebrated our 110th anniversary, opened our seventh store in Sydney and appointed a new CEO; it’s been an exciting time for the business, and I am so proud to see the love for our chocolates continue to span all generations,” he said.

With its expanded production and logistics capacity, Haigh’s Chocolates is poised to strengthen its national footprint and ensure that its handcrafted products reach even more chocolate lovers nationwide.
