Hormel Foods appoints Will Bonifant as Chief Supply Chain Officer

The move positions Bonifant to lead the company’s global supply chain operations.

USA – Hormel Foods Corp., based in Austin, Minnesota, announced the appointment of Will Bonifant to oversee its worldwide supply chain activities.

Bonifant will manage areas including procurement, production, logistics, planning, engineering, and the company’s supply chain innovation initiatives.

John Ghingo, president of Hormel Foods, described Bonifant as a leader with experience managing complex global operations and modern supply chain systems.

Before joining Hormel, Bonifant spent 15 years at The Hershey Co., where he directed supply chain strategy, manufacturing, and engineering across a network of 20 plants.

During his tenure at Hershey, he managed operations in the United States, Canada, and international markets, including the company’s end-to-end supply chain in China and operations across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Earlier in his career, Bonifant worked in management consulting with The Boston Consulting Group, providing strategic guidance to corporate clients.

He also served as a United States Navy submarine officer, holding leadership positions aboard the USS Georgia, a ballistic-missile submarine, where he supervised power-plant operations.

In addition, Bonifant gained experience as a nuclear power regulator, with a focus on electrical engineering and instrumentation design for naval systems.

Bonifant earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, followed by a Master of Science in Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, combining technical expertise with business management experience.

The appointment reflects Hormel Foods’ plan to maintain operational control of its global supply network while expanding its capacity in procurement, manufacturing, and logistics.

Bonifant will assume his role at Hormel on March 9, 2026, taking responsibility for aligning supply chain operations with the company’s long-term strategy.

His experience managing multi-continent supply networks and engineering teams is expected to support Hormel’s efforts to streamline processes across manufacturing and logistics functions.

Hormel Foods has not announced any immediate structural changes in its supply chain management beyond Bonifant’s appointment.

The company operates globally, supplying meat and food products, and relies on an integrated supply chain to meet production and distribution targets in multiple markets.

Bonifant’s background in consulting, naval operations, and global manufacturing positions him to navigate the operational and technical challenges of Hormel’s international supply chain.

This leadership change comes as the food industry increasingly focuses on efficiency, global sourcing, and logistics resilience to respond to market demands.

Hormel Foods’ announcement signals the company’s intention to ensure continuity in supply chain management while leveraging Bonifant’s combined engineering and business expertise.
