Kirin establishes Southeast Asia headquarters in Malaysia to drive regional growth

Kirin launches new Malaysian entity to strengthen its Southeast Asian presence, boost agility, and meet diverse consumer needs.

MALAYSIA – Japanese brewing giant Kirin has established Kirin Brewery Southeast Asia (KBSEA) in Malaysia as part of its strategy to strengthen its regional business foundation and capture growth opportunities.

The new entity will officially begin operations on October 1 and assume functions previously handled by Kirin Holdings Singapore Pte Ltd.

Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, KBSEA has been created to enhance Kirin’s operational base and achieve sustainable growth in the Southeast Asian market.

The move follows steady expansion of the region’s alcoholic beverage sector, which has been driven by population growth and rising incomes, according to IWSR data.

Kirin said the new business aims to meet diverse consumer needs, invigorate the market, and drive competitiveness across the rapidly developing region. By transferring certain functions from Singapore to Malaysia, the company intends to enable faster decision-making and more agile engagement with local market demands.

KBSEA will oversee marketing strategies, brand development, and distribution partnerships across Southeast Asia while expanding Kirin’s product portfolio.

The brewer also plans to introduce new products and grow its original equipment manufacturing (OEM) operations to better address consumer preferences and improve its competitive edge.

The establishment of the new entity comes after Kirin reported a 3.7% rise in consolidated revenue to ¥1,136.3 billion (US$7.6B) for the six months ending June 30, 2025, alongside a 1.3% increase in normalized operating profit to ¥94.2 billion (US$633.6M).

In May, Kirin CEO Yoshinori Isozaki reaffirmed the company’s focus on balancing its business across Japan, Asia-Pacific, and the United States to mitigate geopolitical risks.

In addition to its regional expansion, Kirin recently introduced a seedling cultivation technology designed to improve heat and drought tolerance in hops without compromising flavor quality.

This innovation is expected to strengthen the sustainability and stability of beer ingredient supplies amid increasing climate-related challenges.

The launch of KBSEA marks a significant step in Kirin’s long-term strategy to grow its footprint in Southeast Asia, enhance operational flexibility, and accelerate the rollout of new offerings tailored to local consumers.
