Mahou San Miguel has appointed Peio Arbeloa as deputy general manager as part of a structured leadership transition, alongside expansion into functional soft drinks.

Mahou San Miguel has appointed Peio Arbeloa as its new deputy general manager as part of an orderly succession plan designed to ensure leadership continuity at the top of the Spanish brewing group.
According to the company statement, Arbeloa will assume the role of general management in January 2027, when he is expected to succeed current chief executive Alberto Rodríguez-Toquero.
The company said the appointment forms part of a long-term transition strategy aimed at strengthening governance and ensuring stability in its executive leadership structure.
Arbeloa has been with Mahou San Miguel since 2011, when he joined as director general of the company’s combined water, soft drinks and coffee division.
He later progressed through several senior roles, including deputy commercial director, head of the domestic business division, and chief business officer. Most recently, he has served as sub-director general.
Commenting on his appointment on LinkedIn, Arbeloa said: “After 15 years in the company, it is a privilege to continue building this project with all the teams, supporting us on a very solid foundation and with many opportunities ahead.”
He added: “In the coming months, I will be very close to the business and to all of us who make up this great company, listening, learning and working together with Alberto Rodríguez-Toquero in the transition to the general management of Mahou San Miguel.”
The company said the leadership transition reflects a structured internal succession process that has been underway for some time.
“This movement is part of a transition process that we have been working on for some time, with a clear vision of the future and with the aim of continuing to strengthen our project,” the company said.
Alongside the leadership changes, Mahou San Miguel is advancing its diversification strategy with entry into the functional soft drinks category.
The company has introduced a new product, Yuzz, which combines hydration and functional benefits targeted at skin care. The beverage is non-alcoholic, low-calorie, and contains GreenIuronic, a plant-based hyaluronic acid, as well as vitamin C.
The product will initially be distributed through digital and selected channels, including Amazon, Mahou San Miguel’s online store, Glovo, and pharmacy platforms, before expanding into physical retail distribution from June.
Mahou San Miguel said the launch aligns with growing consumer demand for wellness-oriented beverages in a soft drinks segment experiencing steady growth.
“The growth of this segment reflects a shift in consumer priorities towards options linked to well-being,” said Miguel Ángel Cabrero, Innovation Hub Director at Mahou San Miguel.
